CCDC has been very active in advocating for healthcare issues since 1993 when we issued a report on healthcare hearings. CCDC sees access to healthcare for all people as a social justice issue. Because almost all the support people with disabilities require is funded through the healthcare systems, healthcare is a major issue for people with disabilities. Some disabilities are a result of actual illnesses, but most are not. While having a disability is not the same as being sick, many people with disabilities do have health issues and when health needs cannot be met people cannot achieve their full potential. CCDC believes we must actively seek to diminish health disparities, particularly as they affect people of color who have disabilities.
