COLORADO CROSS-DISABILITY COALITION: THE LEADER IN DISABILITY RIGHTS
SB23-144 Prescription Drugs for Chronic Pain Fact Sheet
A recent study showed that as many as 40% of primary care physician offices will NOT see a new patient if they are using opiate pain medications. Doctors’ fear of increased scrutiny for prescribing medications for patients with a legitimate medical need has had a chilling effect on care.

Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition (CCDC) is the premier organization in Colorado advocating for disability rights. Our mission is to advocate for social justice for people with all types of disabilities (what we call cross-disability). We work with individuals, service providers, businesses, and government agencies to ensure that people with what we call cross-disability have equal rights and equal access. Cross-Disability means we all work together regardless of what our individual disabilities may be. We are run by and for people with all types of disabilities: from Down Syndrome to Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Autism, people with brain injuries, people with mental illness, those who are blind or deaf, and much more. Our arms, our hearts, and our services are open wide. We know those of us with disabilities have a lot to offer.
Our motto is “Nothing About Us Without Us.”
We ensure physical structures are compliant and policies and procedures decrease barriers. We seek compliance with the ADA and help others to accomplish the same. To secure our services for training or consultation, contact our Executive Director Julie Reiskin at jreiskin@ccdconline.org or by calling 303-839-1775. To volunteer in the fight for disability rights, contact our Director of Community Organizing Dawn Howard at dhoward@ccdconline.org or by calling 303-839-1775. Please be aware we do not accept volunteers or interns for our legal programs.
