The People's Clinic
Issues
The People's Clinic, a non-profit medical clinic in Boulder, recently publicized a discriminatory job announcement. The announcement, for a Marketing and Outreach Representative, required that all applicants be able to:
Sit, stand, walk; drive an automobile. Work with extensive use of hands, wrists and arms Operate a telephone, fax machine and computer equipment[.] Lift and carry eleven to twenty-five (11-25) pounds[.] Crouch, twist, reach, kneel and bend on a daily basis[.] Hear routine conversations, signals and tones[.] Use near and far vision.
On its face, these requirements eliminate virtually all people with physical disabilities, people who are deaf, and people who are blind from consideration.
CCDC contacted the People's Clinic twice to ask them to repost the position without the discriminatory language, but has not received a response to this request.
Status
CCDC filed a charge of discrimination on September 6, 2006.
