Issues

Failure of the City & County of Denver to provide accommodations, including sign langugae interpreters, to inmates and detainees with disabilities at the Pre-Arraignment Detention Facility (city jail) and the Denver County Jail. In addition the jails summarily isolate detainees and prisoners with disabilties solelyon the basis of their disabilities. Failure of the Denver Police to provide sign language interpreters, and the failure of the Police and City Jail to provide accommodations, incluing accommodations for individuals with diabetes.

Status

The complaint was filed on August 30, 2007, and an amended complaint was filed on October 17, 2007. A second amended complaint was filed on February 4, 2008.

 

Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition Legal Program has withdrawn as counsel in this case.  The case continues in U.S. District Court; however, Plaintiffs are being represented by three other law firms.
