While investigating the issues related to Kevin Williams’s Medicaid appeal, the State Medicaid eligibility technician informed Mr. Williams she couldn’t determine his 1619(b) status. Under 1619(b), no recipient gets a notice of eligibility. After the Department and Mr. Williams began researching the issue further, the SSA informed Mr. Williams that his SSI eligibility had been terminated in 2004 or 2005. Under 1619(b) Medicaid recipients can work and earn income if they were on SSI at the time they began working. They will remain eligible for SSI despite their income level.
