As we (CCDC) continue to grow and become more involved in our local communities, we need to make sure that we keep all of our materials and documents a

Legal Program News

Submitted by Kevin Williams on January 24, 2012 - 10:19am

CCDC and its Legal Program are very pleased to announce our latest "addition" to our legal team. As of January 1, 2012, Andrew Montoya joined CCDC's Legal Program as a full-time, salaried associate. Many of us already know Andrew as he came to us in 2005, working as our Legal Program Assistant with some crazy notion that he wanted to become a lawyer. Usually, people who work for lawyers decide early on not to join us. Not Andrew. He was possessed of the idea that litigation would be fun.

Why I love Firefox

I haven't ordered anything off the menu at Chili's, outside of the fajita's, in close to a decade.  Believe me, I understand how hard it is to give up something that you love.  The good news for me is that faithfully ordering fajitas has far fewer implications than using Internet Explorer.

Disability and “Drum Major Instinct”

Submitted by Kevin Williams on January 16, 2012 - 12:00am

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said in his February 1968 “Drum Major Instinct” sermon in Memphis:

"Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness."

Why Get Involved in the Political Process

Submitted by Julie Reiskin on January 15, 2012 - 5:25am

It is that time of year again when I will be harassing you all to get to the Capitol. Cynicism with politicians and the political process is at an all time high. Why get involved when they are going to listen to the corporations over people? Do they really care about us? What difference does any of this make?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

The CCDC Advocacy Program is off to a great start with lots of coals in the fire. To start, we have formed an Advocacy Reimbursement Committee to discuss and create a fair reimbursement policy for volunteer advocates.

Laura Hershey Memorial Award The Greatest “Honor”* Anyone Could Receive

Submitted by Kevin Williams on December 2, 2011 - 4:37pm
Last night was CCDC’s annual awards ceremony.  This is, by far, one of my favorite events CCDC holds.  It is the one time that we get to tell people that they’ve done the right thing, instead of the Legal Program filing lawsuits against those doing the wrong thing. Much like my boss, however, I like giving accolades, not receiving them.  But then it happened.

Thanksgiving Blog

I was blessed to have a wonderful holiday last week, as one who was raised in New England, Thanksgiving has always been a holiday I enjoy.  Well, at least I blame it on that because it sounds better than just saying I love any day that revolves around food.
